About Us In the late 1980's, Dr. Beekman opened The Cat Clinic, the first feline-only practice in the southern Maine-NH seacoast region. Following almost 18 years in feline-only medicine, Dr. Beekman closed The Cat Clinic to pursue opportunities in a university setting. In 2006, Dr. Beekman returned to his love of feline medicine and established Coastal Cats Feline Health Care in early 2007. Coastal Cats FHC seeks to provide the quality and compassion formerly associated with The Cat Clinic. Dr. Gerry Beekman has been a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners for over 20 years. He has presented papers at annual AAFP meetings and has served as a member of the AAFP guidelines committee on Senior Care authoring AAFP guideline for the care of senior cats in both 1998 and 2008. Dr Beekman currently serves of the AAFP guideline committee establishing standard of care guidelines for veterinarians as well as the Feline Welfare committee. Dr. Beekman has also contributed a forward to Susan Easterly's book"Your Older Cat: A Complete Guide to Nutrition, Natural Health Remedies, and Veterinary Care" Coastal Cats FHC provides care in all phases of feline medicine, surgery and dentistry. Areas of special interest to our practice include geriatric care, diabetes, internal medicine and oncology as well as general wellness care for all stages of your cat's life, from kitten to codger.
